Home Sharing Ordinance
Home Sharing is a temporary (short-term) rental of a dwelling (or rooms in a dwelling) often but not always using a home sharing platform like Airbnb and VRBO. Home sharing refers to a direct exchange between a property owner and a renter whereby the owner allows the renter to stay on their property in exchange for money. These lodging accommodations are for a temporary period of time not to exceed 30 consecutive days per guest, and the dwelling is the host’s residence. This exchange differs from services offered by hotels, inns, and other lodging services, such as a “bed and breakfast", by allowing consumers to directly provide travel and through an intermediary. Airbnb, and VRBO allow property owners to list their homes, apartments, and condominiums on mobile applications. Home sharing companies receive fees as a percentage of each stay recorded by the owners of listed properties.
